This undergraduate program leads to a Bachelor's degree in Drama, offered in French at the Montreal campus, and trains theatre professionals across four concentrations: acting, scenography, theatre studies, and drama teaching. Training begins with core courses combining theoretical and practical instruction in the technical and artistic aspects of theatre before students specialize in their chosen concentration. The acting, scenography, and theatre studies concentrations are 90-credit degrees completed on a full-time or part-time basis; the teaching concentration is a 120-credit, full-time-only degree that adds psychopedagogy in preparation for a teaching licence. All applicants, regardless of concentration, must attend a mandatory audition. Admission is offered for the fall term. Graduates pursue careers as actors, stage and set designers, theatre researchers, or drama teachers, depending on their concentration, and the program combines classroom instruction with practical studio and stage work throughout the degree.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: All applicants must demonstrate French proficiency through the Uniform French Test required for the DEC, the Quebec Ministry's written French test, or UQAM's own written French test. Admission is possible on one of three bases: holding a DEC or its equivalent; being at least 21 years old with appropriate knowledge and prior theatre experience; or having completed three university-level courses (9 credits) at the time of application. All applicants, regardless of admission base, must attend a mandatory audition; concentration-specific selection requirements also apply. Applicants from a CEGEP arts-and-letters (theatre option) program with a cote de rendement (cote R) of 27 or higher may qualify for automatic admission to the theatre studies concentration.
