Overview
This 30-credit certificate provides a foundation in social and labour law, offered full-time or part-time with admission in the fall term only. The program introduces participants to the legal frameworks governing employment and workplace relations, covering individual and collective labour rights, occupational health and safety, and social protection schemes. It combines core courses in legal method and labour law with optional courses allowing students to deepen study in related areas of social law. The program targets individuals with practical experience in labour relations, human resources, or union or community organizations who want a structured understanding of the legal concepts underlying workplace rights and obligations, as well as students seeking an introduction to social and labour law before further study. No prior legal training is assumed; the certificate is delivered at the Montreal campus.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission is possible through several routes. Applicants holding a DEC (or equivalent) need a minimum cote de rendement (cote R) of 23.5. Candidates without a DEC may qualify on an experience basis if aged at least 21 with a minimum of two years of full-time (or equivalent part-time) experience in fields related to labour or social rights. Applicants with prior university study need at least five completed university courses (15 credits) with a minimum grade point average of 2.7 out of 4.3. All candidates must demonstrate satisfactory knowledge of written and spoken French. The program is offered full-time or part-time, with admission in the fall term only.
