The Master's in History (Maîtrise en histoire) at Université du Québec à Montréal trains specialists in historical scholarship and research methods, with an emphasis on developing genuine command of the discipline. The standard thesis profile totals 45 credits: two mandatory courses (6 credits), three elective seminars (9 credits), and a 30-credit thesis (mémoire). A separate track in digital humanities restructures the credit load as 39 credits of required courses and activities plus 6 elective credits, and a joint diploma with the Université de Tours is also offered. Full-time completion takes two years; part-time study takes four years, except the joint-diploma variant, which runs full-time only over two years. The programme includes an optional concentration in feminist studies. Courses are offered during the day and in the evening, with admission at the fall and winter terms for the standard thesis profile (fall only for the digital humanities track). Students pursuing the thesis profile must have identified a research supervisor before starting.
