This PhD programme (90 credits, code 1579) trains scientists to advance knowledge in ecology and forest-ecosystem management, including wetlands and aquatic environments. Students pursue advanced specialization in one or more fields of ecological or forest science and develop research autonomy: formulating research problems, designing study strategies, and completing original doctoral research. Graduates apply their expertise professionally to understand ecosystem function and to identify, analyse, and resolve ecosystem-management problems. The programme is run by UQAT's Institut de recherche sur les forêts at the Amos and Rouyn-Noranda campuses, full-time or part-time, with intake in the fall, winter, and summer terms. Candidates who have already published peer-reviewed articles from pre-doctoral research may receive credit-equivalence for one optional course. Admission requires a preliminary thesis project and an accepted thesis supervisor at the time of application, and the degree leads to the Ph. D. designation.
Requirements
Minimum GPA:3.20 / 4.3
Admission Requirements: Standard entry requires a master's degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline with a cumulative average of at least 3.2/4.3; files between 2.8 and 3.2/4.3 may still be reviewed and recommended for admission by the programme's admission sub-committee. Candidates without a master's may instead be admitted on a bachelor's degree plus relevant knowledge, training, and experience. All candidates must demonstrate sufficient knowledge of French and English, and must have a preliminary thesis project and the agreed-in-principle support of a thesis supervisor at the time of application, who confirms that the material and financial resources needed to complete the project within the programme's normal length are available.
