The Bachelor in Arts Education Teaching (baccalaureat en enseignement des arts visuels) at Universite du Quebec en Outaouais is a 120-credit teacher-education program delivered over eight trimesters across four years, offered full-time and part-time at the Gatineau campus, with admission each Fall. It prepares candidates for professional careers teaching visual arts at the preschool, elementary and secondary levels, developing the disciplinary, psychopedagogical and complementary competencies needed to teach visual arts and art/communication across these levels. Applicants without a DEC in a visual-arts-related field must demonstrate aptitude for further study and research in visual arts by submitting a curriculum vitae and a visual portfolio, such as images of personal artistic work. Coursework combines studio practice with pedagogical training and supervised teaching practicums. Graduates are qualified to seek a Quebec teaching licence (brevet d'enseignement) in visual arts education.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Base college (DEC): any DEC or equivalent; or a DEC in a visual-arts-related professional field with a college performance rating (cote de rendement) of 23 or higher. Candidates without an arts-related DEC must demonstrate aptitude for study and research in visual arts by submitting a curriculum vitae and a visual portfolio (for example, ten slides of personal work). Files with a rating below 23 may be reviewed by the module director and may require a selection questionnaire on motivation, prior knowledge and aptitude for educational intervention. All applicants must demonstrate sufficient mastery of French, attested by the ministerial French exam for the DEC, the MEQ French test, or an equivalent test administered by a francophone university.
