This certificate introduces students to the fundamentals of graphic storytelling through the comic art form. The 30-credit, first-cycle curriculum covers scriptwriting, graphic production techniques, and the editing and distribution processes involved in publishing comics and graphic novels. Graduates are equipped to produce original comic-art works, combining narrative and visual skills built through sequential coursework in writing, drawing, and page composition. The program approaches comics as a distinct visual-narrative medium, addressing panel layout, character and story development, and the practical steps of bringing a finished work to readers. It is intended for students seeking a focused, studio-based introduction to comic art rather than a broad fine-arts credential. The program is offered in full-time and part-time formats at the Gatineau campus, with admission open in the Fall, Winter, and Summer terms, leading to a Certificate credential from Université du Québec en Outaouais.
