This certificate prepares students to practise financial planning, covering the legal, tax, retirement, estate, investment and insurance dimensions of the field. The curriculum comprises 11 mandatory courses (33 credits) addressing taxation, retirement planning, estate planning, investments, insurance and the legal framework of financial planning, plus one additional 3-credit course chosen from portfolio-management options. Graduates are expected to identify legal issues relevant to their practice, assess investment risk, and develop and coordinate financial strategies for clients. Courses can be taken partially or entirely at a distance, and the program admits students in the fall, winter and summer terms. Up to 16 credits of prior learning can be recognized toward the credential.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Quebec applicants need any DEC plus a passing grade in one of the required secondary 5 math courses (526, 536, the technico-sciences sequence, the natural sciences sequence, or an equivalent). Applicants from outside Quebec/Canada need a pre-university diploma totalling 13 years of study, or 12 years plus one year of higher education, with satisfactory mathematics training. Non-francophone applicants must score at least 361/699 on the mandatory TCF tout public components.
