This thesis-based master's programme trains researchers in chemistry to address problems related to the environment, food, health and safety, energy and new materials. Students complete graduate coursework alongside a supervised research thesis in an area matched to a confirmed faculty supervisor, who must be identified before application. The programme is normally completed in two years of full-time study; part-time study is not permitted. Instruction and research are conducted in French, and strong reading and comprehension ability in both French and English is expected, since much of the specialized chemistry literature is published in English. External applicants submit three letters of appreciation, a motivation letter and a curriculum vitae as part of the application. It leads to a Master of Science in chemistry, preparing graduates for research and technical roles in academic, industrial and government laboratories.
