This thesis-based Master of Music (M.Mus.) in musicology trains students for research careers in music, developing the knowledge and skills needed to study diverse musical repertoires in depth. Coursework covers musical analysis, theory, and aesthetics across historical and stylistic movements, and is combined with an original research thesis supervised by a faculty research director. Students engage with primary sources and existing scholarship to build an independent research project over the course of the program. The program totals 45 credits and is estimated to take two years of full-time study to complete. Admission is offered for the Fall and Winter terms. Applicants must secure a research supervisor before being admitted. Graduates are prepared for doctoral study or research and analytical roles in musicology and related musical scholarship.
