Overview

Demand for skilled cooks and kitchen assistants in the region and nationally remains strong. This program will teach you culinary fundamentals for detailed menu planning, quality ingredient selection and efficient meal preparation. You will learn in a live kitchen environment, providing cooking services for Selkirk's student Bistro, banquet guests and in Selkirk Scholar's Dining Room.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Beyond Selkirk College's general admission standard (College Policy 8611), this certificate requires successful completion of Grade 10 or equivalent with passing grades in any Math 10 and any English 10. International applicants instead need completion of Grade 12 or secondary school in their home country with a minimum of 50% in any Math 10 and English 12, plus an IELTS Academic score of 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0, or an equivalent score on another recognized English-proficiency test; applicants who first complete Level 5 Advanced of Selkirk's English Language Program and then ENGL 60 are exempt from submitting an IELTS score. Applicants should be in good general health, able to stand for long periods, and able to lift up to 25 kg. Applications may be submitted up to 11 months before the program start, with qualified applicants accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Intake is Fall only.

Application Deadline: Selkirk College's general programmes admit on a rolling, first-qualified-first-admitted basis: applications for Fall 2027 open 1 October 2026, Winter 2028 applications open 1 February 2027, and Spring 2028 applications open 1 June 2027, with no fixed closing date. Both domestic and international applicants apply through EducationPlannerBC, or international applicants may instead apply directly to Selkirk with a $100 application package; admission stays rolling until seats fill. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing is competitive-entry with its own published timeline for the 2027/28 intake. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
