Overview
Human Health and Nutritional Sciences (HHNS) is a Bachelor of Science major at the University of Guelph studying the biological, physiological, and nutritional foundations of human health, with emphasis on how lifestyle choices and food products affect illness prevention, performance, and long-term well-being. The degree requires 22.00 total credits, including 16.00 credits in science, with a minimum of 2.00 credits at the 4000 level and an additional 4.00 credits at the 3000 or 4000 level. Coursework covers nutrition biology, anatomy, physiology, functional food development, clinical trials, and the effects of exercise and lifestyle on health, along with related regulatory policy. The standard program is completed over four years; an optional five-year co-operative education stream adds four paid work terms. A minor in Nutritional and Nutraceutical Sciences cannot be combined with the HHNS major. Graduates pursue careers and further study in nutrition, public health, clinical research, and the food and health products industry.
