BA/BS in Biosystems Engineering

Biosystems Engineering applies the principles, methods, and concepts of biology to engineering systems and tools ranging in scale from molecular to ecosystem level. The program awards a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) degree and covers areas including renewable fuels, sustainable bioplastics, nutraceutical extraction, and food manufacturing. A co-op option extends the program to five years and includes five work terms. Graduates pursue careers in food safety, bio-instrumentation, diagnostics, biomechanics, and pharmaceutical engineering, applying engineering principles to biological systems across agricultural, environmental, food, and health sectors. The program is offered within the University of Guelph's engineering curriculum alongside its other B.Eng. streams. Ontario Secondary School applicants to Bachelor of Engineering programs require English (ENG4U), Advanced Functions (MHF4U), Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U), Chemistry (SCH4U), Physics (SPH4U), and one additional Grade 12 U or M course.
