BA/BS in English

The English major at the University of Guelph is offered within the Bachelor of Arts degree and focuses on literary and textual analysis across historical periods and cultural contexts. Students develop skills in critical reading, textual analysis, and research writing while studying works spanning multiple eras and global perspectives. First-year students take the foundation courses ENGL*1080 (Foundations in Critical Reading and Writing) and ENGL*2080 (Foundations in Literary Scholarship). The major can be completed as an honours major, requiring a minimum of 8.50 English credits, an honours minor requiring 5.00 credits, or a general area of concentration also requiring 5.00 credits. Coursework includes core seminars and electives in literature published before 1900, alongside upper-level electives. The programme is delivered on the University of Guelph's main campus.
