The PhD in Computer Science is a thesis-based doctoral program in the School of Computer Science aiming to produce researchers capable of independent, high-quality research. Full-time study is nominally completed in four years (12 semesters) and includes coursework, two public seminars, a qualifying exam, independent research, and a dissertation defence. Research areas include artificial intelligence and machine learning, cybersecurity, data science, human-computer interaction, bioinformatics, applied modelling and theory, and hardware and distributed systems. Admission requires a master's degree in computer science or a closely related discipline that included a thesis or major independent project, and applicants must secure a School of Computer Science graduate faculty advisor before applying. An optional collaborative specialization in One Health is available. Graduates pursue careers in academia, research, data engineering, machine learning, software development and user interface analysis.

Required documents include academic transcripts, a current resume/CV, a statement of interest (maximum 1500 words), and three academic references. The GRE is not required.
