Program details
Overview
Computer Engineering (CENG) is a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) major at the University of Guelph focused on designing, constructing, implementing, and maintaining the software and hardware components of modern computing systems. Coursework covers circuit design and development, hardware integration, and system-level design integration, and students choose elective concentrations in Embedded Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Software Design, Computer Communications, Circuit Design and VLSI, or Controls and Robotics. All Engineering majors at Guelph are offered with a co-operative education stream by default; the co-op option is a five-year program with five paid work terms, while a four-year regular (non-co-op) stream is available on request. Admission is direct entry into the major from first year. The program is part of Guelph's School of Engineering and prepares graduates for hardware-software engineering roles spanning circuit design, embedded systems, and computing-system integration.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission to the Computer Engineering (CENG) Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) follows the University of Guelph's general Ontario Secondary School admission process: an applicant's admission average is calculated from the top six completed 4U/M (or equivalent) courses, including any courses required for the program. Guelph does not publish fixed minimum cut-offs; year-to-year cut-offs are set by the quality and quantity of applications received and the space available in the program, and the university's own estimated ranges do not guarantee an offer of admission. All offers remain conditional on completing the OSSD (or equivalent), the required six courses, and achieving the minimum final average stated in the offer. For students seeking Guelph's co-operative education stream, which this program admits into by default, the university's stated minimum admission average to be considered is normally 80%, though actual cut-offs typically run higher.
