Overview
The Tri-University Graduate Program in History is a Master of Arts offered jointly by the University of Guelph, Wilfrid Laurier University and the University of Waterloo, giving students access to faculty expertise and courses at all three institutions. The program applies historical analysis to contemporary issues such as climate change, health care and equity, and offers teaching assistantship opportunities to eligible students. Students choose one of three routes: a coursework-only stream, a coursework stream culminating in a major research paper, or a thesis-based stream, allowing the program to suit different academic and career goals. Full-time students complete the coursework route in about 12 months, while the thesis route takes about 24 months; part-time study is also available at roughly double those lengths. Admission requires a bachelor's degree in history or a related field, a statement of research interests, a curriculum vitae and two letters of reference. Graduates are prepared for doctoral study in history or for careers that draw on historical research and analytical writing skills.
