This Honours programme integrates knowledge across levels of biological organization, from molecules to ecosystems, through classroom instruction, laboratory work with modern technologies, field-based courses and mentored undergraduate research. Students may concentrate in one of three options — Cellular and Molecular Biology, Physiology, or Ecology, Evolution and Behaviour — each requiring a compulsory independent research project, or complete a general stream drawing on a broader set of advanced biology, biopharmaceutical science or environmental science courses. The 120-unit curriculum begins with organismal and cell/molecular biology, introductory chemistry, earth systems and calculus for the life sciences, followed by ecology, genetics, animal and plant biology, and biostatistics in second year. It is offered in English and French, with co-operative education and a French immersion stream available. Graduates are prepared for careers in conservation, land-use management, ecotoxicology, research, or health care.
