Overview
The Honours Bachelor of Commerce (Option in Human Resource Management) and Master of Science in Management is an integrated accelerated program at the University of Ottawa's Telfer School of Management, combining both degrees into five years. The Human Resource Management option covers the three HRM functions considered most critical in organizations: personnel management, industrial relations and organizational behaviour. Most of its courses are accredited by the Human Resources Professionals Association of Ontario, so graduates also fulfill the academic requirements for the Certified Human Resources Professional designation. In the final undergraduate year, eligible students begin graduate coursework toward the Master of Science in Management; its research-project option can be completed in about 12 months, to a maximum of two years. Graduates receive both an Honours BCom with an HRM specialization and an MSc in Management.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission is through the standard Telfer Bachelor of Commerce application process: an Ontario Secondary School Diploma with six 4U/4M credits including English (ENG4U), Advanced Functions (MHF4U) and Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U), or equivalent courses for international applicants. Applicants whose first language is neither English nor French, and who have not completed at least three years of full-time study in one of the two, must demonstrate proficiency with a TOEFL iBT score of at least 86 overall (minimum 22 in writing) or an IELTS Academic score of at least 6.5 overall (minimum 6.5 in writing). To continue from the Bachelor of Commerce into the Master of Science in Management portion, students must hold a cumulative grade point average of at least 8.0 (A-) at the time of enrolling in graduate courses, maintain a minimum passing grade of 65% (C+) in each graduate course, and may be required to attend an admissions-committee interview; students with a CGPA of 8.0 or above are not required to write the GMAT or GRE.
