Overview
Mathematics and Physics is an Honours Bachelor of Science Specialist program in the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto's St. George campus, for students who want a strong background in both disciplines, with the goal of applying sophisticated mathematical techniques to the study of physics, especially theoretical physics. It is an open-enrolment program: a student may enrol once they have completed 4.0 credits, typically after first-year analysis, algebra, and physics courses. The Specialist requires 14.5 credits, including at least 1.0 credit at the 400-level, covering mathematics fundamentals (analysis, algebra, and advanced differential equations), foundational physics (PHY151H1, PHY152H1), 0.5 credit addressing ethics and social responsibility, advanced physics (practical physics, electricity and magnetism, thermal physics, classical mechanics, and quantum physics), advanced mathematics (partial differential equations and further mathematical techniques for physics), and a 0.5-credit research course. Students may complete the program through the optional Arts & Science Internship Program (ASIP) co-op stream. Admission from Ontario secondary school requires an OSSD with six Grade 12 4U/M courses, including English, Calculus & Vectors, and Physics.
