Physical and Human Geography (HBA) at the University of Toronto is an interdepartmental Major offered at the University of Toronto Scarborough, combining courses in human geography (GGR prefix) with courses in physical geography (EES prefix). It connects the physical and human sides of geography to give students a broad understanding of the world, covering how to explain spatial phenomena and apply spatial theories and techniques to real situations. Physical geography components examine landforms, weather, and geological and hydrological processes, while human geography components address the spatial patterns of human activity and the social and economic problems of land use and settlement. The Major requires 8.0 credits in total, split evenly between EES and GGR/CIT courses, including first- and upper-year requirements in both streams, plus foundational courses recommended in the physical sciences and mathematics. It is delivered at the University of Toronto Scarborough campus.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Ontario applicants need the Ontario Secondary School Diploma with six 4U/M courses including English (ENG4U/EAE4U). Applications are made under OUAC code TUD at the University of Toronto Scarborough campus. EES courses in the program presume a background in the physical sciences and mathematics, so foundational courses in these areas are recommended in first year.
