The Master of Education in Social Justice Education is a course-based (non-thesis) degree offered by the Department of Social Justice Education at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), University of Toronto. Like the department's other programs, it draws on the humanities and social sciences to examine the social, historical, cultural, political, economic, and ethical contexts of education, with a focus on equity and social justice. Students choose between two full-time options: a coursework-only route completed in four sessions requiring 5.0 full-course equivalents, or a coursework-plus-major-research-paper route completed in five sessions requiring 4.0 full-course equivalents plus a required major research paper (SJE2001Y). In both options, at least half of the course equivalents must be Social Justice Education courses. Admission requires a minimum mid-B average in the final year of a bachelor's degree, and no standardized admissions tests are required. The department also offers Master of Arts, Doctor of Education, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in the same field.
