Offered by University of Victoria in Victoria, Canada, Chemistry: Master of Science (MSc) is a master's degree in Chemistry programme. The programme runs for 2 years, delivered on campus. Teaching is in English. Tuition for international students is CAD 2,857 per semester (CAD 2,265 per semester for local students).
The MSc in Chemistry at UVic is a two-year research degree in which coursework broadens a student's knowledge while their own research forms the core of the program. The department organises itself around special areas of research rather than the traditional sub-disciplines of chemistry, and students work with the facilities and resources needed to develop as independent scientists, with encouragement to publish in journals and present at conferences. Two options shape the degree further: the Polymer Nanoparticles for Drug Delivery training program, a CREATE initiative addressing research gaps in chronic disease that adds industrial perspective and problem-solving aimed at the pharmaceuticals and drug delivery sectors, and an accelerated route in which UVic Chemistry Honours graduates or equivalent may be exempted from some coursework and finish in four terms. Study is full-time and on-campus, with an optional co-op component.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission follows UVic's general Master's requirements: a four-year bachelor's degree (or equivalent) recognized by the university with a minimum “B” average over the last two years, plus program-specific criteria. The Department of Chemistry requires a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in chemistry. Applicants whose undergraduate degree is from a non-Canadian university may be asked to submit Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores. English-language proficiency follows UVic's general graduate standard for applicants whose first language is not English (IELTS Academic 6.5 overall, no band below 6.0, or TOEFL iBT 90, no section below 20, among other accepted tests). The application package must include a current résumé, the names and email addresses of two referees, and post-secondary transcripts. The program admits in September, January and May; candidates interested in the Polymer Nanoparticles for Drug Delivery training stream must first be admitted to the Chemistry MSc and then apply separately to that program.
