VCC's building manager certificate covers the foundations of the role: building maintenance and cleaning, contracts, budgeting, building operations and technology, sustainability, risk management, and the communication and conflict resolution skills a manager needs. Coursework spans tenant application, screening, inspections and conflicts; the basic rights and responsibilities of landlords and tenants under BC law and the measures for handling disputes; records management, budgets, costing, inventory control and performance benchmarking in the built environment; rudimentary building maintenance and inspections; fire safety, security and risk management protocols; cleaning and disinfection processes; the ethical, cultural and privacy dimensions of communication; current trends in building technology and sustainability; and operations, project and asset management across different building types. The certificate runs two to three years with continuous intake, combining theory and practical problems, assignments and collaborative learning.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: VCC states this certificate has no program admission requirements: there is no minimum grade, secondary credential, or standardized language-test score to enrol overall. Two required courses carry their own English-language prerequisite, though — BLDG 1201 Contract Law in the Built Environment and BLDG 1202 Interpersonal Communication for Building Managers each require English 10 or equivalent before a student can register for them. Beyond those two course-level bars, admission follows VCC's general domestic process: online application through EducationPlannerBC, the non-refundable CAD 35.70 fee, and official transcripts on file, with applicants needing to be 16 or older, or a secondary-school graduate with some exceptions.
