That general route admits an applicant who graduated a BC secondary school (or accepted equivalent) with at least a "C" in English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12, holds a prior degree, enters with a Letter of Permission, transfers in with 24-plus university-level credits, or qualifies under the academic mature-student category at 21 or older; VIU publishes no IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Duolingo or CAEL score for this route. The certificate is aimed at Indigenous individuals and at non-Indigenous individuals working closely with First Nations communities, and students need a minimum grade point average of "C" (2.0) across the required courses to be awarded the certificate.
