Overview

The diploma provides technical training for careers across most areas of forest technology, with emphasis on recognising the forest's major values, such as water, wildlife, fish, range, recreation, visual landscapes and timber. It carries accreditation from the Canadian Technology Accreditation Board, and graduates meet the standard needed for membership in the Association of BC Forest Professionals as Registered Forest Technologists.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Entry requires a minimum 'C' in English 12 (or equivalent), a minimum 'C' in Principles of Mathematics 11 or Pre-Calculus 11 (or a minimum 'C+' in Applications of Mathematics 11 or Foundations of Mathematics 11), and one Science 11 course with a minimum 'C+' (Forestry 11 satisfies this). Forestry 11 and 12 and Biology 11 are recommended but not required, along with physical fitness for outdoor forestry work. Applicants must also meet VIU's general admission requirements for Academic programs, referenced but not detailed on the programme page. No standardized English-proficiency test score is published. The programme notes it fills quickly, so early application is advised; no portfolio or interview is required.
