Program details
Overview
Respiratory and Anaesthesia Technology (141.A0) is a three-year career Diploma of Collegial Studies at Vanier College and, per the program page, the only English-language offering of its kind in Quebec. Students learn to assess, diagnose, and manage patients with respiratory conditions across age groups, building on anatomy, physiology, and disease-process coursework alongside training on the equipment and interventions used in respiratory and anaesthesia care. From the second year onward, students take on an extern role in partner hospitals, applying classroom learning under supervision, and they also join laboratory simulations together with Nursing students to practise clinical skills in a controlled setting. The bilingual emphasis reflects the program's mandate to serve English-speaking patients within Quebec's health system. It suits students drawn to acute, critical, and operating-room care who want a hospital-based technical career, and graduates can go on to write the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care examination and work in hospitals, air ambulance services, community health centres, home care agencies, and private clinics.
