Program details

Overview

Architectural Technology (221.A0) is a three-year career Diploma of Collegial Studies at Vanier College covering architectural drawing, building systems and materials, and structural mechanics, alongside design, construction, renovation, and building-management principles. Learning is reinforced through regular field visits to notable buildings and architectural sites and through guest lectures from working industry professionals, giving students exposure to real projects rather than only classroom drawings. A two-week internship in the final semester lets students apply their technical skills in an actual workplace before graduating. Admission requires specific secondary-level mathematics (TS or SN sequence) and science courses (ST or ATS sequence), reflecting the technical drafting and structural content of the curriculum. The program suits students who want to combine an interest in design with hands-on technical training, preparing them either to enter the workforce directly in architecture, construction, engineering, or property development, or to continue into related university programs with the benefit of practical, industry-connected experience already behind them.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Architectural Technology (221.A0) requires Mathematics TS 564-406/426 or SN 565-406/426 (or cégep-equivalent 201-016-RE) and Science ST 555-404/444 or ATS 557-406/416 (or cégep-equivalent Physical Science 105-003-RE); Science STE 558-404 or SE 558-402 is highly recommended. These sit on top of Vanier's college-wide Quebec secondary-school baseline (DES/DVS, Secondary 5 language courses, Secondary 4 mathematics, science and history). No portfolio, interview or age condition is stated. No IELTS/TOEFL-style English score is required for admission: Vanier's admissions pages confirm English-proficiency testing is no longer an admission requirement, while a CEFR B2 French test (TCF, DELF, DALF or TEF) is required only of out-of-province or international applicants who did not complete Quebec secondary schooling.
