BA/BS in Medical Biophysics is a bachelor's degree in Biomedical & Laboratory Sciences programme taught at Western University in London, Canada. The programme runs for 4 years. Tuition for international students is CAD 47,493 per year (CAD 6,171 per year for local students).
Medical Biophysics at Western University is an undergraduate program in the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry that applies the principles of physical science to biological processes for medical application. The curriculum builds quantitative and mathematical analysis skills through hands-on laboratory work conducted in an active research environment, with an Honours Specialization Research Projects option available for students who want a dedicated research component. Areas of study include cardiovascular biophysics, bone and joint biomechanics, cancer biology, and medical imaging techniques such as ultrasound, CT, and MRI. The department is in the process of consolidating its offerings into a single streamlined Honours Specialization module intended to balance biological and physical-science content, with some previous module options being phased out as part of that change. Teaching and laboratory work are based in the Medical Sciences Building on Western's main campus in London, Ontario. The program suits students who want to apply physics and quantitative methods to biological and medical questions, particularly those interested in medical imaging, biomechanics, or cancer biology, and who are comfortable with a curriculum that leans toward the physical-science side of the biomedical sciences.
Requirements
Minimum GPA:75.00 / %
Admission Requirements: Medical Biophysics is not entered directly from high school: students first complete Medical Sciences First Entry / Medical Sciences 1-2 in the Faculty of Science, then apply to this Honours Specialization module for year three of the BMSc. Ontario high-school applicants to Medical Sciences need the Ontario Secondary School Diploma including English (ENG4U), Biology (SBI4U), Chemistry (SCH4U) and Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U), with Physics (SPH4U) recommended. Admission to the BMSc requires a minimum average of 75% on the year-two 2000-level courses that form the admission requirement for this module (assured admission for Medical Sciences 2 students needs 80%, with no course below 60%); Schulich's own published averages show recent cut-offs of 75.0% for 2025/26 and 75.0% for 2026/27 for this module (not FULL, at the baseline floor), showing how competitive the pool has run. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet Western's institution-wide proof-of-English-proficiency policy, e.g. IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0.
Application Details
Application Deadline:Western applies through the Ontario Universities' Application Centre, which opens for Fall 2027 entry in late September 2026; Western's own equal-consideration deadline for full-time undergraduate study is 15 January 2027, the same date used for domestic (OUAC 101/105) and international applicants alike, since Western publishes no separate international closing date. Several named programmes carry their own earlier deadlines within the cycle: Medicine (MD) closes 1 October 2026, Law (JD) and Dentistry (DDS) close 1 November 2026, Education (BEd) closes 2 November 2026, and Western Integrated Science closes in early April 2027. Students already enrolled in an Ontario high school cannot be required to respond to an offer before 1 June 2027. Admission is not rolling: applicants are assessed against these published deadlines. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
