Overview
The Bachelor of Medical Sciences (BMSc) is an undergraduate program at Western University's Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry covering foundational basic medical sciences. The first two years consist of common Medical Sciences coursework, after which students move into specialized BMSc study in years three and four, choosing from modules across ten areas of specialization within the basic medical sciences. The program allows students to tailor their degree through module choice and offers a combined BMSc/HBA option in partnership with Ivey Business School for those wanting to pair medical science study with business training. Research is built into the later years through dedicated research courses and scholar's elective options, giving students exposure to investigative work before graduation. Admission Requirements: Students do not enter the Bachelor of Medical Sciences (BMSc) directly in year one: Ontario high-school applicants are admitted to Medical Sciences First Entry in the Faculty of Science, requiring the Ontario Secondary School Diploma with six Grade 12 U/M courses including English (ENG4U), Biology (SBI4U), Chemistry (SCH4U) and Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U), with Physics (SPH4U) recommended. Registration in the BMSc program itself begins in year three: assured admission for Medical Sciences 2 students requires a minimum average of 80% (no course below 60%) on the year-two 2000-level courses that form the admission requirement for the module of interest, while competitive-pool applicants need a minimum average of 75% on the same courses, and the effective cut-off can run higher depending on demand for spaces. The pages state no program-specific English-proficiency score; proof of English proficiency is required only where English is not the applicant's first language, per Western's institution-wide policy (e.g. IELTS Academic 6.5 overall, no band below 6.0).

Application Deadline:Western applies through the Ontario Universities' Application Centre, which opens for Fall 2027 entry in late September 2026; Western's own equal-consideration deadline for full-time undergraduate study is 15 January 2027, the same date used for domestic (OUAC 101/105) and international applicants alike, since Western publishes no separate international closing date. Several named programmes carry their own earlier deadlines within the cycle: Medicine (MD) closes 1 October 2026, Law (JD) and Dentistry (DDS) close 1 November 2026, Education (BEd) closes 2 November 2026, and Western Integrated Science closes in early April 2027. Students already enrolled in an Ontario high school cannot be required to respond to an offer before 1 June 2027. Admission is not rolling: applicants are assessed against these published deadlines. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
