Overview

The PhD in Biomedical Engineering at Western University promotes collaboration between clinical and basic researchers across imaging, biomaterials, biomechanics, and mechatronics. The program offers specializations in Biomaterials, Biomechanics, Mechatronics, and Imaging, drawing on multidisciplinary collaboration across the Faculty of Engineering, the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, and the Faculty of Health Sciences. The program is thesis-based, completed over 12 terms (four years) of full-time study, or 18-24 terms under a flex-time option. Admission requires a minimum overall average of 80% (A-) in the applicant's master's degree. Application deadlines are March 1 for Summer entry, July 1 for Fall entry, and November 1 for Winter entry. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet Western's graduate English proficiency requirements, which accept TOEFL iBT, IELTS Academic, and CAEL scores.
