Overview
The Honours Specialization in Pathology is offered through Western University's Bachelor of Medical Sciences (BMSc) degree at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. The program examines disease at the genetic, molecular, cellular, and organ level, covering both clinical pathology, which studies patients and specimens to understand disease mechanisms, and experimental pathology, which uses tissue samples, cell cultures, and animal models. Students first complete foundational courses in biology, biochemistry, anatomy, histology, physiology, and pharmacology before moving into pathology-specific coursework, beginning with a core course on general disease processes such as inflammation, injury, immunity, infection, and neoplasia. Senior-level courses go further into clinical and experimental pathology, and the program includes a major research project in which students carry out investigative work in a wet, clinical, or dry laboratory setting. Admission Requirements: The Pathology page has no admission section and refers readers to the Bachelor of Medical Sciences (BMSc) site. Western's BMSc page for Ontario applicants requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma with six Grade 12U/M courses including English (ENG4U), Biology (SBI4U), Chemistry (SCH4U) and Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U), Physics (SPH4U) recommended, entering first as Medical Sciences (ESM). Students apply in Year 3 to the Honours Specialization in Pathology: a minimum of 60% in each first-year Biology, Chemistry, Calculus, Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science/Physics course, and at least 60% in the required 2000-level Biochemistry, Biology and Chemistry courses; Pathology 3500 itself requires a mark of at least 70%. Enrolment in this Honours Specialization module is limited, and meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission. International applicants present an equivalent credential plus English proficiency under Western's general standard: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall (no band below 6.0) or TOEFL iBT 83 (no section below 20).

Application Deadline:Western applies through the Ontario Universities' Application Centre, which opens for Fall 2027 entry in late September 2026; Western's own equal-consideration deadline for full-time undergraduate study is 15 January 2027, the same date used for domestic (OUAC 101/105) and international applicants alike, since Western publishes no separate international closing date. Several named programmes carry their own earlier deadlines within the cycle: Medicine (MD) closes 1 October 2026, Law (JD) and Dentistry (DDS) close 1 November 2026, Education (BEd) closes 2 November 2026, and Western Integrated Science closes in early April 2027. Students already enrolled in an Ontario high school cannot be required to respond to an offer before 1 June 2027. Admission is not rolling: applicants are assessed against these published deadlines.
