The MSc in Chemistry at Western University is a research-based graduate degree run by the Department of Chemistry, completed over six terms of full-time, thesis-based study. Research in the department is organized around four themes: chemical biology and biomaterials; synthesis, catalysis and molecular materials; materials design, function and characterization; and theory and computation. Students work within one of these areas under faculty supervision, developing original research culminating in a thesis. Eligible students are encouraged to apply for funding such as the Canada Graduate Scholarships-Master's, Canada Graduate Scholarships-Doctoral, and the Ontario Graduate Scholarship. The program suits students with an undergraduate chemistry background and prior research experience who want to pursue supervised, thesis-based research within a specific chemistry research theme rather than a course-based degree.
