Overview
The Master of Social Work (MSW) at Western University is a Direct Practice program offered in two full-time, on-site, course-based streams: a one-year Advanced Standing MSW for holders of an accredited Bachelor of Social Work, and a two-year Foundational MSW for holders of any four-year degree. Both streams combine coursework with substantial practicum placements of 450 or more hours per year in settings such as child and family services, health organizations, schools, and mental health agencies. Admission to either stream requires a minimum 'B' standing (70 per cent average, or equivalent) over the final two years of undergraduate study, a university-level research methods course covering qualitative and quantitative methods, at least one year (1,000 hours) of paid or volunteer relevant experience, and completion of the Casper test. Students are admitted each September. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet Western's English proficiency requirement.
