Program details
Overview
This program leads to a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Mechanical Engineering, offered by the Lassonde School of Engineering at the Keele Campus on a full-time or part-time basis. Described as one of the broadest engineering disciplines, the program begins with fundamental engineering knowledge before allowing students to focus on areas such as mechanism design, manufacturing engineering, instrumentation, electrical systems, fluid dynamics, solid mechanics, computer-aided design and simulation tools, control, mechatronics, vibrations and actuators, and systems engineering. Students can gain applied experience through a co-op or internship placement, and the program admits students in both fall and winter for first year and upper years, with no summer entry. Graduates are prepared for careers across sectors such as automotive, aerospace, biomedical engineering, biomechanics, clean technology, energy, manufacturing, mechatronics, medical device design and renewable energy systems. The program suits students who want a broad mechanical engineering foundation with room to specialize in later years.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Common BEng prerequisites are senior-level English, chemistry, physics and mathematics; Ontario applicants need ENG4U, SCH4U, SPH4U, MHF4U, MCV4U plus one further 4U/M course, each at a minimum of 70%. Admission is competitive, with an academic average in the mid-80s typically expected for an offer and a final average of 78% required to maintain it; equivalent thresholds apply to other systems, including a 3.7/4.0 GPA on US high-school Grade 11-12 courses, 30 IB diploma points, a B average at GCE A-Level, 4.5/5.0 on the Hong Kong HKDSE, 75% on the Indian Grade XII, and B2 on WASSCE/NECO. College transfer applicants need an overall average of at least 3.3 on a 4-point scale and must have completed SCH4U, SPH4U, MHF4U and MCV4U (or equivalents) within the previous five years. Unless exempt, applicants must meet Lassonde's undergraduate English proficiency minimums: IELTS Academic 6.5 (no band below 6.0), TOEFL iBT 88 (no section below 20), PTE Academic 60 across all sections, Duolingo 120 (no section below 105), or CAEL 60.
Application Details
Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through OUAC; for Fall 2027 entry, Ontario high-school applicants should apply by January 15, 2027, while out-of-province, transfer, and mature domestic applicants have a March 24, 2027 guaranteed-consideration date. Winter 2027 entry closes November 18, 2026 for all applicant types and Summer 2027 entry closes April 1, 2027. York continues to accept and assess applications after these dates until each program fills. International applicants share the same March 24, 2027 Fall guaranteed-consideration date as out-of-province and transfer applicants; York publishes no separate, earlier international deadline. Exceptions include Direct Entry Nursing (February 1, 2027) and Schulich's BBA, which closes firmly on January 15, 2027 with a February 1, 2027 supplementary application. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
