Overview
This program leads to a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Physics & Astronomy, offered full-time or part-time at the Keele Campus, with entry in Fall, Winter or Summer for both first-year and upper-year students, as a four-year Honours or three-year degree. Students choose among three streams: Physics, Applied Physics, or Astronomy and Astrophysics, studying matter, energy, and the mathematical and computational methods that underpin physical science. Students have access to the Allan I. Carswell Observatory, home to the largest telescope on a Canadian university campus, for observational astronomy work. The program suits students with a strong grounding in senior mathematics and physics who want a research-oriented science degree with a choice of applied, theoretical or observational focus. Students also gain experience with computational modelling and data analysis methods used throughout the physical sciences.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants need senior-level or equivalent physics, mathematics and calculus courses, with an academic average in the mid-70s for admission and a final average of 70% required to maintain the offer; equivalent requirements apply across Canadian provinces and international credentials including the International Baccalaureate and CEGEP. Application deadlines for Fall 2027 entry are January 15, 2027 for Ontario applicants and March 24, 2027 for out-of-province and international applicants, with Winter 2027 entry closing November 18, 2026 and Summer 2027 entry closing April 1, 2027. Unless exempt, applicants must meet York's undergraduate English proficiency minimums: IELTS Academic 6.5, TOEFL iBT 88, PTE Academic 60, CAEL 60, or Duolingo 120.
