Overview
Designed for students with no previous exposure to gender and women's studies, this certificate offers a survey of issues and themes in the field. It explores the lives and experiences of marginalized communities historically and cross-culturally and critically examines the social, political and economic institutions that structure inequality and oppression. The certificate is offered by the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies through Concurrent, Consecutive or Direct entry, allowing students to complete it alongside an undergraduate degree or as a stand-alone credential after graduation. Applicants must have completed two years of university studies or the equivalent, and the certificate is open to both current York students and new applicants to York. Study sessions run in the Fall, Winter and Summer terms, and students may enrol on a full-time or part-time basis.
