This program examines feminist perspectives on women and gender as they intersect with sexualities, race, ethnicity, class, ability and age. It is interdisciplinary, drawing on humanities, social sciences, environmental studies, fine arts, education and law. Two degrees are offered: an MA, completed with either a major research paper or a thesis, and a PhD, completed through comprehensive examinations and a dissertation. The program is housed in York University's School of Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies within the Faculty of Graduate Studies, bringing together faculty from across the university whose research addresses gender and feminist theory from multiple disciplinary angles. Students in the MA select their research focus and supervisor in consultation with the program, developing either an original research paper or a full thesis under faculty supervision.
