This is one of Canada's leading graduate programs in Geography, with recognized strength in both biophysical processes and critical human geography. Three degrees are offered: MA, MSc and PhD. Students carry out fieldwork ranging from the High Arctic to South Africa and Southeast Asia, and work in the department's hydrology, GIS and remote sensing, climatology and biogeochemistry labs. Research within the program spans biogeography, migration, wetlands, political ecology, global connections, and place and identity, reflecting the program's combination of physical and human geography specializations. The program is based in York University's Department of Geography within the Faculty of Graduate Studies, offering students the choice between a physical-science-oriented MSc and a social-science-oriented MA depending on their research focus and supervisor, with both routes leading to further doctoral study.
