This MFA in Visual Arts is a five-term, studio-centred program in which students independently develop an art practice under the guidance of faculty advisors. Applicants must hold a BFA or equivalent. The department also offers a four-year, full-time PhD in Visual Arts for students who hold an MFA, in which individually defined conceptual foci are developed and disseminated through an integration of art works, research, and writing. Admission to the MFA requires a minimum B average, two letters of recommendation, a curriculum vitae, a statement of interest, and a portfolio of approximately 20 images or ten minutes of time-based work. Applicants whose first language is not English must also meet the university's English proficiency requirement. The program is offered through York University's Department of Visual Art & Art History in the Faculty of Graduate Studies, with applications accepted for Fall entry.
