Overview
The Graduate Diploma in Education in Early Childhood Education (ECE) gives formal recognition to graduate students at York University who undertake concentrated research and study on the education of young children from birth to age eight. It is offered either concurrently with a Master of Education (MEd) or Doctoral degree in the Faculty of Education, or as a stand-alone, part-time direct-entry diploma. Concurrent completion requires 27 credits of coursework, 21 credits plus a Major Research Project, or 15 credits plus a thesis, depending on the MEd option chosen; the stand-alone direct-entry diploma requires 12 credits and must be completed on a part-time basis. The diploma does not lead to Early Childhood Educator (ECE) professional certification, and it is intended for graduate students seeking specialized academic recognition in early-childhood research rather than a teaching licence.
