Overview
This programme trains university-level sports coaches, combining international interdisciplinary science and technology to build the knowledge needed to assess athletes' abilities, prepare coaching programmes, and train people of different ages and skill levels. Learning outcomes include understanding the social, biological, and political context surrounding sport, applying research ethics and methodology to formulate and investigate a coaching-related problem, explaining human anatomy and physiological processes during exercise, evaluating athletes' functional abilities, and creating a safe, emotionally and socially supportive training environment. Students also learn to adapt training loads to individual responses, identify and correct technical and tactical errors, apply injury-prevention principles, and organise and officiate competitions. Teaching blends project work, video analysis of performance, literature study, and placements with lectures and seminars, and assessment uses oral and written methods, coursework, a final thesis, and a portfolio. The programme offers specialisations across many sports, from athletics and swimming to combat sports, team sports, and precision disciplines, and is described as unique in Lithuania for its focus on preparing sports coaches.
