Overview
This five-year master's prepares pharmacists to apply modern pharmaceutical technologies, current pharmacy science and relevant Lithuanian and EU law to the production, quality control and wholesale distribution of medicines and active substances. Early years build foundations in anatomy, physiology, microbiology, immunology, chemistry and applied physics, pharmaceutical analysis, pharmacognosy and the economics and marketing of pharmacy, before later subjects turn to the evaluation of medicinal substances and products. Research training covers planning and coordinating pharmaceutical studies, applying theoretical and experimental methods, and translating results into professional practice, while special skills include preparing pharmaceutical forms, producing and testing medicinal products, and organising their storage and supply in pharmacies, hospitals and wholesale settings. Assessment combines written and oral exams, laboratory reports, case studies and practical training reports, and the programme concludes with a master's thesis defence and a final exam built around an objective structured clinical examination. Graduates are trained to advise on the rational use of medicines and to take responsibility for patient and public welfare.
