Overview
This joint European master's trains border guard professionals to carry out applied research with practical relevance for national and EU border guard organisations, building competence in EU and international legislation, policies and procedures on cross-border management and international cooperation. It develops critical awareness of border security at a strategic European level, the ability to apply research and professional skills to make evidence-based recommendations for improving border guard management, and the capacity to work both independently and in collaboration with counterparts from other states. Teaching uses a blended, student-centred approach built around a shared virtual learning environment run by the EU border agency, combining critical case analysis, practical assignments, peer evaluation, presentations and group work, with a thesis supervised by an international team of researchers and assessed mainly through written examination and its open defence.
