MA/MS in English Studies (Linguistics)

English Studies (Linguistics) is a master's specialisation that follows current directions in linguistic research and teaches students to draw on methods from linguistics and from neighbouring disciplines. Students learn to analyse how English is used, to tackle language-related problems, and to get ready for roles in academia, in language planning, in education or in international projects, where a firm grasp of how language works and sound analytical skills are essential. The content moves step by step from language theory towards practical application. Early work covers meaning in language (semantics), pragmatics and today's directions in the field. Later, the focus turns to discourse studies, typology, corpus-based analysis and cognitive approaches to language, and elective courses allow them to look at language from several angles. The knowledge and skills gained serve both academic and international professional settings.
