The Teaching of Psychology Certificate is a graduate-level credential delivered entirely online. It supplements psychology knowledge with the teaching skills needed to compete for college-level instructor positions, and students work closely with professors on individual research projects.
The certificate consists of six courses, each worth three credit hours, covering core concepts in psychological science, social psychology, research methods, educational psychology, developmental psychology and the teaching of psychology. Applicants should come with general grounding across psychology and particular strength in developmental and social topics.
Completing the certificate does not meet requirements for secondary-level teacher certification. Application materials include an essay on the applicant's reasons for choosing the program, transcripts and an application fee, with review beginning in fall and spring cycles. Prospective students can find the degree plan, course descriptions, faculty profiles and contact details for the department on the program page, along with scholarship information.
