BA/BS in Liberal Arts and Sciences, General Studies and Humanities

The Liberal Studies major allows students to build a personalized course of study with an advisor. It fits independent, creative learners who want to blend several disciplines instead of following one fixed path. Students select three minors from separate programs. Two must come from the liberal arts, such as humanities, art or women's studies, and the third may be a professional area like accounting, management or human resources. A final thesis connects what the student has learned. The major also prepares students for graduate school, especially when their goals call for knowledge of more than one field. Typical careers include marketing, communications and sales. Classes meet on the Oakland campus. Because the plan is self-designed, students meet often with their advisor to keep it on track.
