Program details

Overview

Fire Protection at Shasta College is delivered through the Fire Technology area, which trains students for work in structural and wildland firefighting. Students can start with entry-level credentials and move toward a Firefighter II academy and an associate degree. The coursework serves people already working in the service as well as those preparing to be hired, and it follows the standards used by California and federal fire agencies. Hands-on academy training builds the practical abilities employers expect from new firefighters. Graduates can pursue positions with fire departments and wildland crews, or continue building certifications that open the door to advancement. Students are encouraged to meet with a counselor to map out a personal education plan, and academic plans for each award are posted on the program page.
