Overview
This degree in the School of Education treats schooling as a way to read culture, politics and human growth. It is aimed at students who want to lead and advocate, not only to teach.
A common core examines the roots of education and society, inclusive schools, popular culture, change within organizations, immigration, global education and research methods. Two of those courses double as liberal arts credit. The rest of the program includes a large liberal arts component covering writing, a foreign language, history, mathematics, laboratory science and either humanities or social science, plus room for courses from any other school.
Students select among three tracks to tailor their path. Careers can lead toward law, policy, advocacy for people with disabilities, learning technology, health care, human services, nonprofits, or coaching and athletics.
