Overview
A recently launched program in the School of Education, this degree prepares teachers for English, math, science or social studies classrooms who help every learner enjoy the subject.
The plan leads toward New York State certification in two areas: a secondary content subject for the upper grades and special education for students with disabilities across all grades. That credential may carry over to many other states. The program stresses equity and the principle that every student deserves a worthwhile education alongside peers.
Field experiences begin in the very first semester and extend across five semesters, with options in New York City. Simulated classroom scenarios let students rehearse real interactions. A cohort moves through many courses together, advisors give personal attention, and students can join faculty research or study abroad at a major research university.
