Overview

The Master of Education with a major in Curriculum and Instruction offers advanced study for certified teachers and for candidates who already hold a bachelor's degree. It draws on the College of Education's conceptual framework, which aims to develop capable and caring educators who can work well with a variety of learners. Students choose from several concentrations: Educational Technology, Music Education, Secondary School Instruction, Teaching English Language Learners, and Elementary Education. Some of these are advanced programs that do not lead to a license, while the secondary option can lead to initial teacher certification at the 7-12 or K-12 level. Music Education applicants need an undergraduate music degree. Admission is unconditional with a four-year degree and a suitable grade point average. Applicants with a lower average may be admitted conditionally and must then supply graduate exam scores and earn good grades in early coursework.
